Seed3D 2.0 targets more precise geometry, materials and downstream simulation tasks. The practical comparison is the work you need after generation, not an untested quality ranking.

Release and access: get the date right

ByteDance’s official release post is dated April 23, 2026. Seed3D 1.0 introduced single-image generation; 2.0 emphasizes finer geometry and PBR materials, with API access through Volcano Engine. This is not a claim that the model launched this week.

The technical report identifies doubao-seed3d-2-0-260328 and describes scene layout, part-aware and articulated-asset work. See the project page for official examples. Research capabilities should not be assumed to appear in every API endpoint.

A useful evaluation plan

Choose a reference with the structures that matter to your work. For a thin handle, inspect whether the opening remains open from several angles. For a shiny object, move the lighting and check whether the material behaves plausibly rather than merely looking attractive in one still. Record the input, settings and output so you can compare candidates fairly.

For simulation, appearance is only one acceptance criterion. Verify collision geometry, units, joint behavior where relevant and the intended engine’s import path. For a visual prop, those engineering steps may be unnecessary, but you still need to inspect hidden surfaces and material loading.

When to use a direct single-asset flow

If the immediate job is “turn this illustration into a model I can inspect and export,” start with the Image3D Studio. Use the viewer before deciding whether the candidate is worth taking into another application. For a simulation project, begin with the simulator’s actual input contract instead.
